KnownAquarium Disclaimer for Aquarium Care Information
KnownAquarium provides general aquarium information. It cannot examine your animal, inspect your equipment, test your water, or replace qualified local advice.
Veterinary and health limits
Similar visible signs can result from oxygen loss, temperature error, toxic nitrogen, contamination, injury, aggression, parasites, or disease. A photograph or short description cannot reliably separate those causes.
Diagnosis and treatment require the actual animal, its history, its water, and qualified professional judgment. If advice here differs from advice given by a veterinarian who examined the animal, follow the veterinarian.
Water values require context
A temperature, pH, hardness, salinity, or nutrient range belongs to a particular species, life stage, system, method, and source. A wild observation, breeding condition, and long-term captive range may answer different questions.
- Confirm the unit and measurement method.
- Compare the supplier's water with the receiving aquarium.
- Check the needs of every species sharing the system.
- Repeat an unexpected result before making a large change.
- Prefer stability when a rapid correction would create additional stress.
Changing water conditions carries risk
A desirable final value can still be reached too quickly. Temperature and salinity can shift immediately during water replacement, while pH and hardness changes may affect both livestock and biological filtration.
Measure before and after an adjustment, use a defensible rate, and stop when animals show distress or the result differs from the expected trend. Seek qualified help when the safe pace or cause is uncertain.
Electricity and water can injure people
Follow the current manufacturer instructions for every heater, pump, light, and electrical accessory. Use a residual-current device where appropriate, unplug equipment before handling it, and hire a qualified electrician for fixed wiring.
Damaged cables, wet plugs, overheated equipment, and improvised repairs require immediate attention. General aquarium information cannot certify the safety of a particular electrical installation.
Filled aquariums are heavy
Water weighs roughly one kilogram per litre before the glass, stand, substrate, rock, and equipment are included. Only a qualified person familiar with the building and support structure can assess whether a floor or piece of furniture is adequate.
Long service without visible damage does not prove that a support remains safe. Stop using a stand that bows, twists, separates at joints, or allows the aquarium to sit unevenly.
Animals, plants, and local law
Rules for keeping, moving, selling, treating, and breeding aquatic organisms vary by jurisdiction and can change. You are responsible for checking the current rules that apply where you live.
Product information is limited
A manufacturer's rating describes that company's product under its stated conditions. It does not guarantee suitability for every aquarium, stocking level, room temperature, electrical supply, or maintenance schedule.
KnownAquarium does not offer personalised purchasing advice or guarantee a commercial product. Check current instructions, recalls, warranties, and local electrical requirements before use.
Household hygiene still matters
Wash your hands after contact with aquarium water, keep aquarium tools away from food-preparation equipment, and cover open cuts. Anyone with a weakened immune system or a specific health concern should ask a medical professional.
Photographs cannot prove identity or diagnosis
Lighting, camera exposure, age, stress, trade names, and similar-looking species can all change what an image suggests. Confirm important identifications with accepted scientific names, reliable records, and qualified examination where needed.
No guarantee of a particular outcome
Every aquarium differs in water, history, livestock, equipment, maintenance, and local conditions. General information cannot guarantee survival, health, breeding, compatibility, structural safety, legality, or a specific result.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, KnownAquarium accepts no liability for loss or harm arising from reliance on this information. Nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Questions or factual corrections can be sent through the contact details. The terms of use and privacy notice provide the remaining legal information.
